Do you use iCloud for Messages?
To check, open Settings ➡️ Apple ID (Your Name at Top) ➡️ iCloud ➡️ Messages: This switch should be set to ON if you use iCloud for Messages.
If you use iCloud for Messages, then your Messages are synched between your iPhone, iCloud and other devices that you may have that are signed on with the same Apple ID.
This means that the messages on your iPhone are the same messages on iCloud. If you deleted a message on the iPhone, then it is deleted on iCloud as well.
How to see old imessages on icloudThe reverse is also true. You cannot retrieve deleted messages in this setting.
If you do not use iCloud for text messages then you can restore your iPhone from a backup on your iCloud account (if you use iCloud to back up your iPhone).
